Reasons for joining MSMA

In our fast moving world every mail professional needs timely information to do the best for themselves, their staff and their organization. Over 2,200 mail professionals are members of Mail Systems Management Association (MSMA) because of that need.

WHAT IS MSMA? MSMA is a non-profit-all volunteer association of mail professionals dedicated to education and promotion of the mail management profession. MSMA achieves its objectives, in part, through local chapters, co-sponsoring national trade shows (MAILCOM) and certification of mail and distribution systems managers (CMDSM).

WHY SHOULD I JOIN THE LOS ANGELES CHAPTER? The Los Angeles Chapter of MSMA is one of the most active of the 21 chapters in the country. Your chapter provides informative meetings nearly every month of the year. Recent meeting topics have included mail center security, postal rate changes, site tours and other informative topics. Meetings are held at various locations central to most members.

In addition to the monthly topics offered, you will have the opportunity to meet other mail professionals - both mailers and vendors. Through these contacts you will always have resources you can turn to with your questions and to seek assistance - the value of networking on a local basis.

WHAT ARE THE FINANCIAL BENEFITS OF BEING A PAID MEMBER? Over and above the rewards of meeting information and networking opportunities, there are financial benefits:

• A savings of $10 or more per meeting vs. non-members.
• A savings of $200 for certification.
• A savings of $150 on MAILCOM registration.
• A $120 discount on subscriptions to Postal World.
• A 25% subscription discount for Mail Center Management Report (IOMA)

ARE THERE OTHER BENEFITS?

The L.A. Chapter Board is constantly working on new and improved membership benefits. Work is under way to implement a study course for members seeking certification. A member website is currently being designed and members will be receiving information and meeting notices via e-mail. L.A. has members from other West Coast states which do not have chapters with the idea of helping chapter development in those other areas.

Your MSMA Chapter has close ties with the 4 Postal Customer Councils (PCC) in the Greater L.A. area. MSMA programs complement PCC information and do not duplicate their good work. MSMA gives special attention to your needs relative to incoming mail, interoffice mail, overnight services, professional development and other topics not normally associated with PCC programs. Your MSMA Chapter recommends PCC participation as well as MSMA membership for the best possible information.

As with anything else you do, your benefits will be in direct proportion to your participation.
